As is our custom, the Sentinel will publish on Tuesday, August 4, instead of Wednesday, August 5, during Fair Week, which this year runs from August 4th through August 9th. Postal patrons will get their newspapers a day early, and the paper will hit the newsstands on Tuesday morning.

The menus for the Rooks County Senior Centers for the week beginning Monday, August 3, are as follows: Monday—Sloppy joe on a bun, mixed vegetables, mandarin oranges, cookie. Tuesday—Seasoned baked chicken, au gratin potatoes, beets, bread, strawberries.

The First Congregational Church of Stockton will mark a significant milestone as it celebrates 150 years of ministry on Sunday, August 9, with a special worship service beginning at 10 a.m.

The countdown is on for one of Rooks County's favorite summer traditions as the Rooks County Free Fair returns August 3-9, offering a full week of exhibits, entertainment, racing, carnival rides, music, food, and family activities.

Young fairgoers with a green thumb are encouraged to take part in the Tallest Corn Plant Contest at this year's Rooks County Free Fair. Sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, the contest is open to children ages 2 to 18 and offers cash prizes for the tallest corn plants.

Area residents and businesses are invited to show their support for Rooks County youth by attending the annual 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale on Friday, August 7, at the Sutor-Blauer Arena on the Rooks County Fairgrounds.
