The Stockton Lady Tigers Volleyball Team will open its season this Friday when they take the road to Natoma for a triangular with Thunder Ridge and the host Tigers. Action will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Stockton playing two varsity matches and one junior varsity match.

A film crew was in Stockton last week during the fair to gather footage for the new movie entitled, Through The Curve, featuring the motorcycle races held in Stockton on the 1/2-mile track during the Rooks County Free Fair.

Xtreem Flat Track racer Jim Ottele was badly injured last Friday night during the motorcycle races at the Rooks County Free Fair. Ottele, who resides in Redlands, Calif., was having a great run when, between corners three and four, he went high and lost control.

With 80 percent of the Kansas Fair I70 Series in the books, another Kansas native stands out. Born in Topeka and currently residing in Mayetta, Scott “Raineman” Raine is a second-generation racer, and has decided to call it quits at the end of this year.

With twenty-five percent of the Kansas I70 series in the books, and onlysixmoredaystodetermine the winners of the Kansas Fair series, there are a couple of people who really stand out: the young man whose roots are right here in Stockton, Hunter Townley, and the seasoned veteran to flat track racing from north of the border in Alberta, Canada, Don Galloway.

The Plainville Cardinals K-18 Softball Team capped off a very successful season by winning the 4th annual K-18 Softball State Tournament held the weekend of July 15 and 16 in Lucas. The top-seeded Cardinals downed Osborne 11-10 in the quarterfinals, defeated Scott City in the semifinals 11-3, and again faced Scott City in the tournament finals, cruising to a 9-1 victory to capture the championship.
