The Heartland Community Foundation has awarded Smoky Hills PBS with a grant for $1,500 to support the station’s Literacy Leadership Program. The Literacy Leadership Program is an effort from Smoky Hills PBS to engage and inspire children to be ready and eager to learn.

Casual for a Cause helps to beat the heat

Casual for a Cause is just one of the ways that Rooks County Health Center (RCH) employees are giving back to the community and National Hydration Day, held on June 23, was the inspiration for the latest effort by RCH staff.
ROOKS COUNTY HEALTH CENTER donated 70 cases of bottled water and 20 cases of fluid replacement drinks such as Gatorade, which were delivered to the five fire departments in Rooks County (Stockton, Woodston, Palco, Damar and Plainville.) The Purdums' July Summer Trip

Harry and Willardene Purdum, along with Ellen and Dewey Bateman drove to Rock Springs, Wyo., to visit family, as well as see Willard and Tiffany’s new home. Granddaughter Jessica Scott and her two young sons drove from Port Orchard, Wash., to Rock Springs to make for a wonderful family visit. The boys’ dad, Cameron Scott couldn’t get leave from his Navy post to come along on the trip.

National Park Service to host Dedication and Grand Opening of the Historic African Methodist Episcopal Church July 31st for the Nicodemus Homecoming Celebration

The town of Nicodemus will celebrate its 143rd Annual Emancipation Celebration and Homecoming event July 29 through August 1st, 2021. Among the scheduled activities and programs on this special weekend, will be a dedication and grand opening of the recently restored African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, one of the five primary historic structures in Nicodemus. The dedication is scheduled on Satuday, July 31st, at 1 p.m.
