The menus for the week beginning Monday, August 23rd, are as follows: Monday—Swiss steak with tomatoes, rice, mixed vegetables, bread, pineapple. Tuesday—Pasta salad with ham, cantaloupe, crackers, pudding. Wednesday—Oven-baked chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, bread, peaches. Thursday—Sloppy joe, tater tots, green beans, bun, mixed fruit. Friday—little smokies, baked potato, broccoli, bread, pears.

Fair Week ends with Demo Derby

THE DEMO DERBY held on Saturday, August 14th at the Rooks County Free Fair brought the week-long event to a close with lots of action! Winners of the three categories were: COMPACT TOP 3: 1. Matt Ramsey, 2. Jerrod Alvord and 3. Jakob Church; OLD SCHOOL COMPACT TOP 3: 1. Adam Murchie, 2. Brandon Waggle and 3. Danny Martin; and SUPER STOCK TOP 3: 1. Nate Pasek 2. Kaiden Jeffery and 3. Trey Grismore. There were 32 cars that participated in this year’s event. The results of the car races held during the week will be printed in next week’s edition.

Bonita Oliva and friends participate in six-day bicycling event in Colorado

Bonita Oliva left home Thursday morning, July 21, heading to Manitou Springs to participate in a six-day bicycling event in the area. Bicycling friends Cathy Scott and Signe Geist flew from Florida to the Colorado Springs Airport where Bonita picked them up. The three had signed on to the Amazing Bicycle Colorado in the mountains of Colorado and had rented electric assist bicycles or ebikes.

Ranch Rodeo kicks off 2021 county fair

The 2021 Rooks County Ranch Rodeo kicked off this year’s Rooks County Free Fair on Sunday, August 8th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Spectators braved the extra hot and humid temperature to watch some of their favorite cowboys perform several different tasks which included: Trailer Loading, Doctoring, and Double Muggin’.

Last Sunday the temperature was in the high 80s with partly cloudy skies. Monday was another day of partly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering around the 90-degree mark. Tuesday was a mostly cloudy day with the high in the low 90s. Wednesday was partly cloudy with a high in the mid 90s. Thursday was a sunny day with the highs again in the mid 90s. Friday was a sunny day with the temperature creeping up into the 100s. Saturday was mostly sunny with the temperature again up into the low 100s. A thunderstorm also greeted the area in the early morning hours, with another light shower in the evening. There was an accumulation of a half inch of rain for the day.
