OUR VICTORY. God gave a remarkable message to Israel in Exodus 29:45-46, saying, "I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the LORD their God." God desired to deliver Israel and dwell among them. IOW, God longed to have a people of faith whom He could call His own and prove Himself to be their God by greatly blessing them. He still longs to have a people who genuinely, savingly trust Him so that they He can forgive their sin, give them eternal life, and then provide their needs, guide them, protect them, and in short, be their God. Egypt serves as a type of our pagan world in which people bow down to many "gods" but not to the only true God. God kept His promise and delivered Israel from Egypt. However, many of them, likely most of them, longed to be back in Egypt. They longed to be back in the pagan world. They longed for the things of the pagan world, saying, "We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic" (Num. 11:5). And in Numbers 11:20, they asked, "Why did we ever come up out of Egypt?" One of our deacons used their dog to illustrate the longing in the hearts of many Israelites. Their dog loves to be in the kitchen when food is being prepared, but it knows that it must stay in the living room. However, it gets as close to the line as it can hoping to enjoy some dropped morsels. Though their dog obeys on the outside, it's heart is to be back in the kitchen. The desire to live in and enjoy the paganism of our pagan world today too often clings even to those of us who sincerely strive to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind (Matt. 22:37). So how do we overcome the paganism of our world? "And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith" (1 John 5:4).

First Christian Church of Plainville

Body
The question of the week—where is your heart? God is saying, “Let me come in” and He wants your heart, but where IS your heart today? Pastor Brian used Galatians 4 and verses from Genesis to lead us this week in a discussion about our heart, our abilities, and God’s bigger plans for you. Our bodies were designed to respond a certain way when things happen.
