Born August 20, 1938, in Larned, she was the daughter of William Edward and Florence (Dipman) Smith. On April 5, 1958, she married Gene Mull at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. They were blessed with 57 years until he passed away on September 2, 2015.

He was born on May 14, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, to Gerald and Feliceine (Parker) Kriley.
Darrell attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1962.
He was a proud United States Navy and Vietnam veteran, serving from 1964 to 1968. Following his discharge, he returned to Kansas and completed a course of study in carpentry. After a year as a carpenter, he transitioned to working in the oil field, where he worked for several decades.

Her family moved to Alma, Nebraska, in 1943, when her father (deceased in 1966) took a job with the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company. Her mother (deceased in 2002) is buried in the Hill City, Kansas, cemetery.
