Daphne Plumer catches monster halibut while deep-sea fishing in Alaska

Largest halibut caught this season for Apex Lodge and Charters When Daphne Plumer of Stockton went on her first deep-sea fishing trip last month, little did she know she would not only come away with the 'Catch of the Day' but more like the 'Catch of a Lifetime.' Daphne, accompanied by her husband, Brad, and three other couples, embarked on a five-day fishing adventure to Pelican, Alaska, from August 2nd to 8th. The shared excitement and anticipation among the group members added an extra layer of thrill to the journey.

County holds budget and cemetery public hearings

At the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, August 20th, the cemetery RNR budget hearing, and the county and cemetery budget hearing were held. After chairman John Ruder opened the first hearing, clerk Laura Montgomery read that four cemeteries were exceeding the revenue neutral rate (RNR) and what each cemetery had proposed.

City of Stockton Budget Hearing is Tuesday, September 3rd, at 5:00 p.m., at Stockton City Hall The unapproved 2025 City of Stockton budget published on August 15th, 2024, in the Stockton Sentinel shows a proposed tax rate increase from 52.1 mils to an estimated 67.543 mils in 2025. This is a significant increase from the previous year when, from 2023 to 2024, this tax rate went down.

EMS Department receives donation from Stockton Rodders at City meeting

Every year, Stockton Rodders, Inc. donates a portion of the funds generated from the annual Swing Into Summer Cruise Night and Car Show to an organization. This year, the Rooks County EMS Department was presented with a $5,000.00 check at the Stockton City Commission meeting. Dean Kester spoke on behalf of the Rodders. He stated how much their organization appreciates what the City does to help prepare for the event and the involvement of all the other departments that ensure that the event runs smoothly. On hand to receive the check for the Rooks County EMS were director Megan Niblock and EMT Jim Prockish.

Commissioners talk about roads, museum events, security monitoring at meeting

The Rooks County Commission met with Gail Griffin during their August 13th meeting, who voiced his concerns about the road conditions on 30 and 31 Roads close to the Osborne County line. He felt the roads needed more rock and asked if anything could be done. The commissioners said they would pass his concerns to highway supervisor Eric Biggs.
