School Board renews both principals and superintendent’s contracts for additional year

At the end of three executive sessions for the purpose of discussing superintendent evaluation, certified staff, administrative contracts and supplemental contracts on Tuesday, March 3rd, the Stockton USD #271 Board of Education members voted to renew grade school principal Stacey Green, high school principal Gary McCown and superintendent Bill Lowry’s contracts for an additional year. They also voted to hire Justin Basart as assistant high school track coach for the coming sports season.

We’ll Miss You!

MAGGIE ARNOLD’S final day at the Stockton Post Office was Friday, February 28th. Maggie, who lives near Alton, has worked for the postal service for seven years, and has been in Stockton for four of them. She accepted a position at Marty Wolters’ State Farm Insurance office in Osborne. Postal patrons will miss seeing her smiling face and kind heart.

Dustin and Dayna Kriley of Stockton are happy to announce the birth of their first child. Ezra Michael Kriley arrived at 5:34 p.m. on February 21, 2020 at Hays Medical Center. He was 8 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Grandparents are Michael and Cindy Kriley of Stockton, and Mike and Tammy Pachta of Riley.

The menus for the week beginning Monday, March 9, are as follows: Monday—Little smokies, macaroni and cheese, peas, bread, tropical fruit. Tuesday—Ground beef vegetable soup, orange/pineapple salad with cottage cheese, crackers, brownie. Wednesday—Turkey ala king, spinach salad, rosy applesauce, biscuit, no-bake cookie. Thursday—Taco burger with lettuce, cheese, tomato, refried beans, bun, mandarin oranges. Friday—Baked fish, parslied potatoes, country style tomatoes, bread, mixed fruit.

Return to Daylight Savings Time means increased driving danger

One of the most anticipated “signs of spring” arrives this weekend when the clocks “spring forward” (Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8), and we lose an hour of sleep in exchange for extended daylight hours throughout the summer. However, come next Monday morning, the commute will look very different for school students waiting for buses and motorists driving to work – in the dark.

Sen. Moran announces $27 million grant for Kansas Railway

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) has announced the Kansas Department of Transportation was awarded $27 million for upgrades to the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad, utilized by rural customers across Kansas to transport crops, minerals, chemicals, steel and other products across the country. This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program.
