Commissioners meet with several department heads during regular meeting

Health Nurse Lori Eichman was at the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 3rd to introduce the commissioners to new employee Jamie Martin. Eichman also presented the commissioners with the grant applications she will be sending out, which the commissioners signed as presented. Eichman also stated that she has been in contact with other health agencies and hospitals to stay updated on the Coronavirus.

Six Rooks County students win Hansen Scholarships

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation of Logan, Kansas has named 272 high school seniors from 59 Northwest Kansas schools as winners in its 45th annual scholarship competition. In addition, twenty scholarships have been awarded to Kansas Community or Technical College Transfer students who are planning to continue their education at a Kansas fouryear college or university. The list includes six from Rooks County.

PresumptivePositive COVID-19 Case Identified in Kansas March 7

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is confirming its first presumptive-positive case of COVID-19 in Kansas. The possible case was identified March 7th with testing sent to KDHE’s Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories (KHEL). KHEL, which is approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to perform COVID-19 testing, found presumptive-positive results this afternoon. These results will be verified by the CDC lab but will be treated as positive unless determined otherwise.
