Stockton hires new business teacher

Kyle Hull was contracted as Stockton’s new business teacher for the 2022-2023 school year at the special school board meeting held on Monday, June 27th. He will also serve as the coathletic director, taking over Marcia Hrabe’s position upon her resignation. Also hired in supplemental positions for the upcoming year are Don Moffet as the head high school football coach, Spencer Hilbrink as the head junior high football coach, and Heath Muir as the assistant junior high football coach.

Commissioners meet with several department heads during regular meeting

Appraiser Heather Poore was present at the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, June 14th to ask for permission to hire an outside appraiser for the County for a business owner who feels his tax appraiser is too high. The cost is $2,000.00 with Poore stating she has the funds in her budget. The commissioners approved the request and will allow Poore to hire an outside appraisal service to look at the local business. Before leaving the meeting Poore requested a five-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Present for the session were the three commissioners, Tim Berland, Greg Balthazor and John Ruder, Poore and county clerk Laurie Montgomery. There was no further discussion when the commissioners came back to the open meeting.

Unique art projects coming soon to a bare wall near you!

Just when you think nothing much is going on in Stockton, a couple of art projects in the works will soon begin to brighten up the town! A large Mural and a Barn Quilt Wall are two projects planned by the RoCo Arts Council, Inc. that you will want to be watching for.
NOSTALGIC POSTCARD — The artist’s illustration of a large mural shows each letter of STOCKTON depicting various icons and images of our life in Rooks County. This mural will be painted on the bare wall at the intersection of U.S. Highways 183 and 24. The wall, owned by Ron Gallaway, is a “blank canvas” just waiting for a colorful greeting! This mural is a project of RoCo Arts Council, Inc.

2022 Wheat harvest has begun

The area wheat harvest has begun with Mike and Glenda Jirak bringing in the first load of wheat to Stockton’s Farmers Union Elevator on Monday, June 20th. Moisture content was dry.
