Stockton Tiger basketball teams got off to a rough start in their season opener at Russell last Friday, with the Lady Tigers losing 72-41, and the Tiger boys falling 57-41. This week Stockton will be participating in the Pre-Season Basketball Tournament.

The Stockton Lady Tigers picked up a 29-14 win over Plainville in junior high basketball action at Plainville on Monday, November 30. The contest was a make-up game from November 19.

Although the winter sports seasons are now underway, they will be held with several restrictions in effect. COVID-19’s recent positivity rates, the impact of other illnesses on top of COVID-19 in an overburdened health care system, and moving interscholastic activities indoors, prompted the 78-member KSHSAA Board of Directors (BOD) to meet virtually on November 24 to discuss several items pertaining to the winter activity season.

The Stockton High School boys and girls basketball teams will be tackling the 2020-21 season with low numbers on each roster. The teams began practicing for the season on Monday, November 16, with the Lady Tigers and Tiger boys sporting eight and 11 players, respectively.

The 2020-21 wrestling season is underway with the Stockton Tigers scheduled to open this Friday with a triangular this Friday at Plainville. This date has been added to the original schedule. The Tigers will wrestle second and third, taking on Phillipsburg and Plainville. On Saturday Stockton will participate in the Osborne Tournament. Matches are to start at 9:00 a.m.

No spectators will be permitted to attend high school or middle school contests from December 1, 2020 through January 28, 2021, following a recent decision by the KSHSAA Board of Directors. However, schools will plan to do their best to bring the events to the fans.

In a makeup game from November 19, the Stockton Junior High Tigers traveled to Plainville on Monday to take on the Cardinals. Stockton’s A Team boys fell to Plainville 48-9, with Jack Gasper scoring 7 points and Noah Griffin 2.

Stockton’s student/athletes have had to deal with the effects of COVID a lot lately, with the junior high basketball games being halted until after the Thanksgiving holiday. The Tigers are scheduled to host Hill City on December 1, if things go as planned.

The Stockton Junior High Tiger Basketball teams have hit the court running traveling to Oakley last Tuesday, and hosting Norton at home last Thursday. This Tuesday the Tigers were in Hoxie and on Thursday they will host TMP, followed by Ellis on Tuesday, November 17.
