Drone funding discussed at County meeting

Emergency management director Adam Bryant and sheriff Gary Knight attended the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, July 2nd, to discuss fundraising for a county drone. Bryant discussed what the drone would be used for and how it could be shared between the various departments, including the sheriff, fire, and cities. The drone could take accident photos, search and rescue, establish fire locations and movement, etc., and be shared between other counties or cities when needed.

Anton’s journey across America

Stockton, Kansas, is now a small part of Anton Nootenboom’s long journey of walking across America barefoot to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health. Anton, who is from the Netherlands and goes by the tag name “Barefoot Dutchman,” is a 37-year-old Dutch Army veteran and mental health advocate.

Bridge to be replaced just west of Stockton

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects, one of which includes replacing the bridge just west of Stockton. The letting took place June 20, 2024, in Topeka.

Andy Muir appointed to open school board position

At a special meeting held Tuesday, July 2nd, the Stockton USD 271 School Board members voted to appoint Andy Muir to the open Board Member position recently vacated by Jesse Stithem. Board member BJ Hoeting abstained from the vote.
