School board prepares for the upcoming school year

In preparation for the upcoming school year, the Stockton Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday, August 12th. The first order of business was to review the second reading of the new policy updates. After President Chad Sterling read through the updates, the board members voted to approve them as presented.

Using letters, newspapers, and other documents, author Blake Watson examines service in France and the war effort back home.

School begins Wed., August 21st

The Rooks County Fair has ended, and the Stockton City Swimming Pool is in its last open week. This means the lazy days of summer are coming to a close, with the first day of school set for next Wednesday, August 21st.

Rudman wins Republican Primary for Rooks County Commissioner District 2

The unofficial vote totals from Tuesday's Primary Election were released just after 9:00 p.m. this Tuesday, August 6th.

Of local interest, Tracy Rudman received 176 votes for Rooks County Commissioner District 2, followed by Jake Brown, 127, and Ernest Hammerschmidt, Jr., 30.

 "These totals do not include any Advanced voters. However, that number is small and won't change the outcome," stated Rooks County Election Officer Laurie Montgomery.

A complete list of candidates and their vote totals will appear in next week's issue.

The Rooks County Free Fair started off with the one of its most popular events, the IMCA Stock Car Races on Sunday, August 4th and the IMCA Stock Car Races/ Dirt Crown Summer Race Series on Monday, August 5th, setting the tone for an exciting week of Grandstand entertainment and fun on the Midway! On Tuesday night, August 6th, the Purple Ribbon RC Racing, and the Free Ranch Rodeo (Frank Smith Arena) are the big attractions with both starting at 7:00 p.m. Then on Wednesday night, August 7th, in the Grandstand infield, the Fair will hold its newest event, the Barnyard Brew Fest, from 6:00 p.m.
