Fort Hays State University has released the names of 1,723 students who earned places on the Deans Honor Roll for the fall 2020 semester. Among those are a nice number of students from Rooks County.

Gunner Kerns, Claire McClellan and Kathryn McClellan, all of Plainville, are among the nearly 5,000 Kansas State Univesity students who have earned semester honors for their academic performance in the Fall 2020 semester.

The Rooks County Commissioners reviewed and signed the Rooks County COVID pay policy for the employees at the start of the meeting held on Tuesday, January 26th. The employees can use either personal time or receive 2/3 pay if they need to be quarantined.

JANUARY WAS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH. Our Stockton USD No. 271 school board members supported and helped lead our district through an unprecedented pandemic this year. School board members develop policies and make decisions that help shape the future of our education system. Our board members are: Daphne Plumer, Jesse Stithem, Stephanie Niblock, LeAnn Dix, Aftan Tso, Mark Billinger and Linda Conyac.

The Rooks County Health Center (RCH), the Rooks County Health Department and Post Rock Family Medicine provided mass COVID-19 vaccinations in the old Dessin Fournir building in Plainville last Saturday, January 30th.

Stockton Grade School eighth-grade student Bodye Stithem was crowned the Rooks County Spelling Bee Champion on Friday, January 29th at Palco Grade School. Bodye won by correctly spelling the word, “knickerbockers” after going head-to-head against second-place finisher Cayden Klein from Sacred Heart Grade School for several rounds.

The annual Rooks County Conservation District meeting was held on Monday, February 1st at the Rooks County Fairgrounds Harding Hall. The Come-and-Go event took place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. before the meeting started.
