City’s use of electrical power during freezing cold front

On Sunday, February 14th, the City of Stockton was notified from Kansas Municipal Energy Association, which was notified from Southwest Power Pool that if a public utility had the means to run diesel generators they should start doing so by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15th. This was due to an unprecedented stretch of extremely cold temperatures that affected the region with Kansans being called upon to conserve energy.

New nursing home facility for Stockton turning into a reality!

“We are excited to start our new facility project and wanted to begin with some basic questions and answer for the public,” stated Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson. This proposed project has been discussed at several Stockton City Commission meetings throughout the past year and a half, but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amos and Elizabeth Earlywine are an interesting couple for a couple of reasons: he was an “older” man when he joined the Union Army during the Civil War, and they are great-grandparents of Frank Walker, who has a specia significance to the Rooks County Historical Museum.

#7 Stockton Lady Tigers stun #2 seed Mankato-Rock Hills

The #7 seed Stockton Lady Tigers traveled to Mankato Thursday night for their first-round of Sub-State Basketball action where they took on #2 seed host Mankato-Rock Hills at Mankato in the Class 1A Div. 1 Sub-State (Osborne site).

Junior Lady Tiger Olivia Dix was fouled on a last-second three-point attempt in regulation which sent her to the line with .02 of a second remaining in the game. As she has done for most of the season, Dix made all three free throw attempts to send the game into OT.

The Rooks Çounty Commission met on Tuesday, February 16th with commissioners John Ruder and Greg Balthazor present. Commissioner Tim Berland was absent from the meeting.
