Stockton students learn about Kansas heroes and legends

Body
The seventh-grade students of Stockton Junior High School teachers Crystal Dunlap (6/7 ELA and Science) and Laura Moffet (Science and Social Studies) have completed a combined Project Based Learning lesson for their Kansas History class. The driving question to guide the project was, “How have yesterday’s Kansans shaped our state today?” Each student drew a famous Kansan’s name from a cup and then did research for their brochures during their Social Studies and ELA classes. The “trading cards” or names each student received included some basic facts about their chosen Kansan. Then the students were on their own to research their person by utilizing Google, the Kansas Historical Society website, find a grave website and trip advisor. Besides the research component to this project, the students embraced the use of technology and their creativity when designing their brochures. Along with learning new facts about their chosen subjects, the kids had fun designing and making the brochures.

Commissioners looking into new roof for City Hall

Body
The Stockton City Commission had been apprised of leaks in the roof of the Stockton City Hall at earlier meetings, with manager/ clerk Courtney Flower to gather bids to rectify the problem. For many years, the roof has just been patched. She presented the bids she had on hand at the regular meeting of the commission on Tuesday, February 16th. The bids were for the tearing off of the old roof and replacing the entire area. After a bit of discussion, the commissioners would like Flower to get bids with the option of installing a pitched roof along with the replacement of the flat roof that the facility now has. They would also like to have quotes as to how much it would cost to move the roof air conditioners onto the ground before any decisions are made.
