The Stockton Public Library will be hosting its Storytime Program with stories, crafts and more for all ages on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. starting on Friday, September 10th. The program schedule has great themes lined up for each Friday morning, so mark your calendars now to join in the fun!

Rooks County School Districts’ COVID-19 Update

The Rooks County School Districts are working together with our local health providers to keep our students, staff, and community safe.  Once again, COVID-19 cases impact our day-to-day school operations. Each district follows additional sanitation protocols in their buildings.  School personnel are continuing to implement many of the cleaning practices that were in place last year. Masks are optional.

FINALLY...Webster Reservoir now in a "Watch" Advisory for blue-green algae

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) released its latest list at 4:00 p.m. this Thursday, August 26th, of public health advisories for Kansas lakes due to blue-green algae.

After months of being in a "Warning" Advisory, Webster Reservoir has finally been downgraded to a "Watch" Advisory which is welcome news to those who enjoy using the lake.

County meets with several department heads during weekly meeting

The Rooks County Commissioners met with economic development director Roger Hrabe during the regular weekly meeting held on Tuesday, August 17th. Hrabe reported on the economic development meetings he has recently attended with the focus being questions about how the ARPA funds can be utilized. He asked to be included in the discussions the commissioners have about the funds since ideas at his meetings have centered around housing, child care and elder care.

City approves audit, requests and zoning changes

Tom Carpenter with Mapes and Miller was at the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, August 17th to review the City’s audit report for the year ending December 31st, 2020. After the review was completed, the commissioners approved the audit as presented to now be submitted to the state.

Safety stressed for the Labor Day holiday

The Kansas Highway Patrol has joined local and state law enforcement agencies from now to Labor Day, Sept. 6, to help keep Kansas roads safe and decrease the number of impaired motorists on the state’s roadways.

Honoring Braden Higdon with one last run

Braden “Bubba” Higdon loved cars and demos or basically anything that had an engine and made loud noises. So to honor this young man whose life was cut short on Wednesday, June 16th, his family and friends worked together to honor Bubba with one last run at this year’s Rooks County Fair’s Demolition Derby.
