The Heartland Community Foundation is inviting area finance professionals, attorneys, bankers, insurance agents, and other advisors to a special lunch program, Keeping Wealth Local: Year-End Giving Insights for Advisors, on Friday, Sept. 19, from noon to 1 p.m., at Verdant Bistro, 230 E. 8th St.

The July 22, 2025, meeting of the Crossroads Quilt was held at 6:30 p.m., with refreshments brought by Karen McCune and Nicole Ganoung. Roll call was taken and answered by nine members, with eight showing items for the fair booth display.

A vigorous health care system is essential not only for the health and welfare of community residents, but also to enhance economic opportunity. Health-related sectors are some of the fastest-growing in the economy. Given demographic trends, this growth is likely to continue.

JEFFERSON, JAYANA AND JALIA CREIGHTON showed dogs at the 2025 Rooks County Free Fair. Jefferson and Elly received a Blue ribbon in Showmanship, and a Green ribbon in Obedience.

KATHY CREIGHTON and her German Shorthaired Pointer, KC, participated at this year’s Rooks County Free Fair. In Adult Showmanship they won a Blue ribbon with a score of 99 out of 100. In Obedience they also received a Blue ribbon with a score of 194 out of 200.

Life as a farm wife is a whirlwind of unpredictable adventures, hilarious moments, and endless chores that keep me on my toes from dawn till dusk. Well, not dawn. Because I'm not getting up that early unless I need to visit the bathroom, but every day begins with the rooster's early morning crow.
