We received 1.20 inches of rain on Tuesday of last week, and it dried up pretty quickly after such a muddy morning. I had to take the tractor to fix the fence, but it slipped too far with the front tires while trying to turn around in the road. However, I ended up getting out okay, just leaving horrible tracks. I was not planning on walking home in the rain.

We are thankful for the safe return of Pastor Matt MacConell and Justin Hashenberger this week from their mission trip to Nepal. Matt and Justin both expressed that you don’t realize how good you have things until you see what others experience. The Christians of Nepal battle government opposition and threats, extreme poverty, and challenging living conditions, all while growing in faith. For them, suffering is just part of the equation.

Fort Hays State University recognized approximately 1,691 graduates during its Spring 2025 commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Of that number, 22 are from Rooks County.

I moved to Pratt about three years after the Greensburg tornados; I have seen pictures and heard many first-hand accounts, but I don’t think I will ever understand the trauma people in Greensburg and surrounding communities felt through those horrific nights.

Donna Hamilton from Stockton and Christi Roy from Hays were among 16 employees recognized at the Hays USD 489 Retirement Ceremony held on Tuesday, May 27, at the Strand Theatre in Downtown Hays. The event began with a breakfast for the honorees and their families, followed by the ceremony, which started at 8:00 a.m.
