U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced Wednesday last week $3 million in CARES Act Recovery Assistance grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration to three regions of Kansas impacted by the COVID- 19 pandemic.

The Kansas Department of Transportation began resurfacing work on 18 miles of K-9 in Phillips County Tuesday, July 21. Work will consist of a 1-inch mill and 2-inch overlay beginning at the Norton County line and ending at the U.S.

At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, July 7th, the commissioners discussed the health and safety concerns dealing with the solid waste department. Due to COVID-19 and general health concerns, as well as the physical aspect of picking up heavy trash cans, bags, etc.

At the regular Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, July 7th, commissioners John Ruder, Corky Hagan and Greg Balthazor signed Resolution 2020-7, which is the COVID-19 relief funds to be dispensed for the entities in Rooks County.

At the Stockton USD 271 Board of Education meeting held on Monday, July 6th, the board members voted to hire Ashley Clune as the 6-12 band teacher, Brooke Wiles as the 8-12 English teacher, and Leta Allen as the school’s business teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
