At the April Stockton USD 271 Board meeting, it was announced that grade school teacher Jen Kesler and high school teacher Shane Austin were nominated to represent Stockton for the 2021 Kansas Teacher of the Year Program. As they now step into their roles as Stockton’s representatives for the coming school year, the 2020 nominees, grade school teacher Andrea Graham and high school teacher Lee Lindsey, reflected on their year and the events they attended as representatives of our school district.

Change is inevitable, even as much as we might try to resist it. To say that we are going through a period of extreme change is an understatement. With the advent of COVID- 19, who is to say what tomorrow, next month, or even next year will look like?

At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, April 7th, the commissioners approved Resolution 20-4 dealing with the emergency declaration for COVID-19 protocol. The commissioners also authorized employee exemption for FMLA as discussed and presented to them by city attorney Joe Gasper.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), and local law enforcement agencies around the state have experienced an increase in reports of law enforcement impersonators stopping Kansas travelers.

After two executive sessions were held near the end of the Stockton USD No. 271 Board of Education meeting held on Monday, April 6th, the board members voted to accept the resignation of band instructor Kayla Hockett at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. They also accepted the resignation of elementary secretary Deb Carsten, effective July 1st, 2020.
