KDOT announces approved September bids

The Kansas Department of Transportation recently announced approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place Sept. 22, 2021, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.

The meeting was brought to order at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 20th, 2021, by vice-president Lynda Falley due to the absence of president Karen McCune, with refreshments provided by Niki Meistrell, Linda Gilbert, Karen Baldwin and Berdina Whisman. Roll Call was taken with Show and Tell answered by 18 members and one guest. The Minutes were approved as read. Correspondence was received from Joan Northup. The Treasurer’s Report was given, and no bills were presented. Betty Bedore made the motion that they be accepted as presented. It was seconded by Idona Duncan and approved by all. Sew Day Report was Plainville had ten and Stockton had two. The next Sew Days are Stockton on October 9th and Plainville on October 13th. Old business was baby blankets. We are still looking for places to take them. Lynda Falley will check with Options and Kid Link. Quilt shirts to be replaced were given sticky notes to say what was wrong with them and Terrii Collins will try and get them replaced. The member emails were double-checked to see who was not receiving minutes that are sent out via email. Under New Business were the Quilts of Valor. Each group needs to hold a meeting to see where we are for QOV and if we are presenting in November. As of this writing Stockton has six quilts to present and Plainville will have a meeting to decide. We are checking for volunteers to give us programs from Hays and vise versa. A sign-up sheet will be made. November is election of officers. During Committee Reports, the Opportunity Quilt is now at the Plainville Library. Stephanie Hart offered to pay for an ad in the newspaper about the quilt. Announcements were made with a reminder to bring in your selling items for the Christmas Boutique by November 1st. The Door Prize, brought by Judy Russ, was won by Betty Bedore. The Fat Quilt drawing with School theme was won by Lynda Falley. Next month’s Fat Quilts theme is Fall. The hostesses for next month’s meeting, Monday, October 18th, will be Linda Stamper and Janice Miller. Diane Maddy made a motion to adjourn, and it was seconded by Stephanie Hart. It was approved by all. The Program was given by Janie Lowry on Disappearing Quilts Demonstration.—Secretary Terrii Collins.

Stockton Food Pantry now in new location

The Stockton Food Pantry has moved to its new location at 602 Main Street, which is located right behind the Main Street Christian Church Parsonage (alley entrance). The Pantry serves many families each month, and the program can only continue through the great generosity of our local people. And with the holiday season fast approaching, the facility is in need of your help. So if you would like to help support this worthwhile organization, there are a few ways you can donate.

Condolences to the family of John and Alice Paulson of Wichita Falls, Texas. John was a brother of former Woodston resident, Lars Paulson. John was a 1947 graduate of WRHS who passed away September 26, 2021 at the age of 92. Richard Paulson is a nephew. His wife, Alice, died three days later, on September 29, 2021 at the age of 90. She was a 1949 graduate of Stockton High School. They were married June 2nd, 1950.

Reducing food waste program held at Nova

The Rooks County FCE Council hosted a informative program recently on Working Together to Reduce Food Waste in our Community. It was held at the Nova Theatre in Stockton on September 11 at 4:00 pm. Those in attendance heard from some amazing speakers both in person and virtually on the big screen thanks to the theatre board.
