And So They Say

Body
Nina (Silvers) Smith, Lexington, Va.: “Seeing the ‘Best Friends for 80 Years’ ad in the September 2 issue of the Sentinel, made me think of the friendship I have had for the past 80 years with my classmate. We met as freshmen at Stockton High School in 1941 and have kept in touch since; for many years it was through the mail, but over the last 10 years we have talked on the phone to each other every day.”

Rooks County Emergency Management Director Butch Post was installed as the Kansas Emergency Management Association (KEMA) President at the annual conference held in Mulvane last week. Post served as president-elect for the past two years, which is unusual since the position is only supposed to be a one-year appointment. But due to COVID-19, a lot of things were changed up or postponed until this year’s annual meeting.

Body
The Woodston Fire Department was called out at 5:28 p.m. on Friday, September 17th for a pasture fire at Q and 27 Roads. The fire was caused by a lightning strike. The rainstorm that afternoon had put the fire out by the time the department had arrived, but the volunteers stayed on the scene to soak down the area to make sure all the embers were extinguished. Stockton had been called for mutual aid, but were called back since the fire was out by the time Woodston had arrived.
