When we are under pressure and life seems to be coming down hard, sometimes the best advice for us may be to “get a grip.” In the context of this week’s selected scripture verses, that advice simply means to take hold of your life and know who is in control.

YOUR WORD IS TRUTH. That was Jesus' viewpoint (John 17:17). But what is the Bible to you? Is it nothing more than a book of cute little stories to teach moral lessons of life to little kids? For example, does Noah and the Ark simply teach children to be nice to animals? Or does David and Goliath simply teach children to stand up to bullies? Is that all the Bible is? Or is the Bible truth from our eternal Creator God given to us so that we can know Him, know His view toward life, and know how to gain His forgiveness so that He can grant us eternal life?

Attend Kansas City Chiefs Season Opener

Body
Bart and Donna Hamilton, Haven and Tatum traveled to Kansas City Sunday to attend the season and home opener game for the Kansas City Chiefs. They met Haven in Junction City as she had been in Manhattan to attend the K-State vs. Southern Illinois football game on Saturday. The Chiefs played the Cleveland Browns. The Chiefs came back from a 22-10 halftime deficit to win the game 33-29. On the return trip home, the Hamiltons came upon the terrible crash east of Junction City where a car had crossed the median and met a semi head on, resulting in a fire which took the life of the driver of the car and whatever occupants were in the car, if any.

Labor Day Weekend

Body
Labor Day Weekend visitors in the Harry and Willardene Purdum household included Ellen and Dewey Bateman from Lubbock, Texas, and Willard, Tiffany, Isabelle and Violet Purdum from Rock Springs, Wyo. While visiting, Willard, Dewey and Harry hung a new front door on the house, while Ellen and Tiffany painted the front porch railing. Harry C and Ellen painted the back porch. Harry C had built a planter box for the back porch rail—it now has flowers in it and requires daily watering due to the continuation of hot weather. With all that done, the Purdum homestead should be ready for winter! With Ellen and Tiffany also doing the cooking, a great family get-together was enjoyed by all.
