you said, "I must" do something? For example, have you ever said, "I must change the oil" or "I must clean out the fridge?” It's a word of necessity. Interestingly, there are many "musts" in the Bible. Here are three. In John 3:7, Jesus told Nicodemus, "You MUST be born again." Jesus was saying, "Hey, Nicodemus, you're the premier teacher of the Law, you strive to obey the Law, and you're highly respected, but you can't earn God's forgiveness yourself. Do you really want assurance of eternal life in heaven? Then you MUST be born again!" It appears that Nicodemus eventually did believe. In John 3:14-15, Jesus also told Nicodemus, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so MUST the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Jesus was saying, "Nicodemus, the price for your sin is infinite. It's out Smith Monumentsrageous that you think you can take care of your own sin problem. Only I, eternal God in human flesh, the spotless, sinless Lamb of God, can pay for your sin and satisfy the Father's wrath toward you. I MUST die! And you MUST believe that my death is your only hope!" God's wrath? Yes! Paul says that sinners are "saved from wrath through Him (Jesus)" (Rom. 5:9). And John prophesied of that future day, saying, "the great day of His wrath has come" (Rev. 6:17). Jesus He was lifted up. He did die. But He also resurrected. Hearing of His resurrection from the grave, Peter and John ran to the tomb with Peter entering first. Then John entered, saw the grave clothes left behind, and believed that Jesus had resurrected (John 20:8). The next verse then says, "they did not know (fully grasp) the Scripture, that He MUST rise from the dead." Jesus had to rise from the grave because His resurrection proves that God accepted His Son's death to satisfy His wrath toward our sin. So, the question some must answer is, "WHAT MUST I DO?"
