MARY ROE, OLATHE, left, and Joyce Schmitz, Stockton, right, were reunited 50 years later after having been friends growing up in Salina. What brought them back together after all those years is something you have to read below.
THE LUCKY WINNER of the beautiful Crossroads Quilt Guild quilt was Mary Roe, left, a childhood friend of Joyce Schmitz, right. The quilt was hand delivered to Mary via her friend, Joyce Schmitz, right.

The Crossroads Quilt Guild quilt this year had a special meaning to Joyce Schmitz, Stockton and Mary Roe, Olathe.

The two ladies have been childhood friends since they were less than one year old, living three houses apart while growing up in Salina. Mary and Joyce had somewhat lost contact with each other after high school, going their separate ways and had connected again a few years ago on Facebook .

After Joyce shared the picture and information about the quilt on Facebook, Mary wrote Joyce and told her that she wanted tickets for the quilt that was to be raffled off.

It was the perfect color for their bedroom. So Joyce entered her name in the drawing and told her if she won she would deliver the quilt to her door.

They hadn’t seen each other in 50 years! When Mary’s name was drawn they both were so excited and made arrangements to meet in Salina on Monday, December 13th to get the quilt!

They enjoyed a long lunch, catching up on their families, careers, travels and just getting acquainted once again with promises of getting together again, this time not so long in between!

Oh yes… and she got her quilt!
