Stephanie and Steve Pfeifer are happy to announce the birth of another grandchild. Sawyer Quinn Shamburg was born on October 29, 2021 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville to Preston and Heather Shamburg, Stockton. She weighed 6 lbs. 15 oz. and measured 19 1/4 inches long. Big sisters are Teagann and Paisley Shamburg and Lane Sullivan is her big brother. Paternal grandparents are Beckie Jones and Greg Foulke of Beloit, and Arlene Wetzler of Stockton is her great-grandma.

Card Shower For Merrill & Nita Johnston's 60th Wedding Anniversary

The family of Merrill and Nita Johnston is requesting a Card Shower in honor of their 60th Wedding Anniversary which was November 19th. They were married on November 19, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Stockton. They were blessed with four children: Kim (and Matt) Slater of Great Bend, Dawna Scott of Stockton, Stacey (and Tony) Eddleman of Hastings, Neb., and Brian (and Nealee) Johnston of Hesston. They have 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

SISTERS ALLY (LEFT) AND NICOLE BALDERSTON, along with their grandmother, Joan Balderston attended the Denver Broncos game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, November 14, at Mile High Stadium. Nicole drove from Overland Park to Stockton, where she picked up Joan, and they drove on out to Denver to meet up with Ally for the game. Although the Broncos lost, the ladies had a great time together. Joan has had season tickets to the Denver Broncos games since 1977.

WHILE AT THE FFA NATIONAL CONVENTION, the Stockton members enjoyed the expo/ career show as well as toured Kelsay Farm, Hunters Honey Farm, the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the rodeo, axe throwing, the St. Louis Arch and the Warms Springs Ranch-Budweiser Clydesdale breeding facility. Rooks County Senior Companions & Foster Grandparent volunteers recognized for service

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers serving through the Fort Hays State University Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs give to others by offering vital support to people in need. Foster Grandparent volunteers serve in classrooms as role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. Senior Companions provide daily assistance and friendship to adults needing support to enable them to remain living in their homes as independently as possible. Both Programs provide opportunities for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving in their communities.

The Barton Community College Foundation presents scholarships each year from funds received through its fundraising events, endowments and annual scholarship gifts. For the 2021-22 academic year, the Foundation selected Logan Nuss of Plainville as one of its scholarship recipients.

Former Plainville High School graduate Travis Roy Dixon is one of 693 students who completed associate, bachelor, or graduate degrees at Fort Hays State University in the summer 2021 term. The university conferred 167 graduate degrees (master’s, Education Specialist, and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees), 526 bachelor’s degrees, and 7 associate degrees.
