Caleigh Grace Iwanski of Stockton has been named to the Dean’s list at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Iwanski, a junior majoring in animal science and grassland systems, was named to the Dean’s List for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resourced.

Economic development director Roger Hrabe was first on the agenda of the Rooks County Commission during the regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, January 31st. Hrabe gave an airport update, stating the airport is installing a new automated weather observation system. The next project will repair cracks and redo markings on the runway and taxiway. Hrabe said there are FAA funds available the County can utilize for this project. At this time, Hrabe asked if any ARPA funds were available for the County’s match 90/10 for the airport projects. It was the consensus of the commissioners to use ARPA funds for the County’s share. Hrabe will start the paperwork necessary for the projects.

A total of 1,624 students earned places on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University for the fall 2022 semester. The Dean’s Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only.

Named to All-Academic Team.

Frommid-June 1916 through early March 1917, the question of a new courthouse for Rooks County was being discussed. Rooks County was the only county in the Sixth Congressional District and the Thirty-fourth Judicial District that still needed to build a modern up-to-date courthouse. In February 1917, Stockton businessmen began discussing the matter of donating a suitable site for the purpose of building a new courthouse. It was decided to donate a location closer to the business section of Stockton if the county commissioners decided to build.

June 22nd, 1900: The commissioners have added an elegant and commodious verandah on the south side of the courthouse building. The work was done by Fin Meloney and Ed Weyer. It is a substantial improvement, adding much to the comfort of the clerk and treasurer's rooms, and really to the exterior of the building.

The time is here when romance fills the air. Thoughts focus on Valentine's Day as anticipation of romance clouds the minds of couples everywhere.
