(The following article is from the unapproved minutes of the February Woodston City Council meeting.) The Council of the City of Woodston met in the Council Chamber at the City Hall on Monday, February 13th, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Council members present were Kate Terry, Thomas Yakish, and Bill Dibble.

Under New Business at the Stockton City Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 7th, the commissioners reappointed employee Jeff Scott to the KMEA Board of Directors. They also approved the Consent Agenda at the start of the session. Items listed included the Solomon Valley Manor gross payroll of $62,396.21, the Solomon Valley Manor warrants of $125,111.58, the City of Stockton warrants for $233,943.77, the City of Stockton gross payroll of $94,525.24, and the February 21st regular meeting minutes.

Saturday morning, March 11, brought a nice shower while doing chores that left puddles for a while. I participated in the VFW Chili Cook Off Saturday evening, drawing fourteen entries.

February 16, 2023 Mila Villalta is happy to announce the arrival of her baby brother, Xander Lieo, born February 16th, 2023. He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19 inches long.

The Stockton Farmers Union Mercantile & Shipping Association held its annual Expo on Thursday and Friday, March 2nd and 3rd. Congratulations to winners Fred Ratliff, Steve McCauley, and Joe Weidenhaft! Each won an insulated tumbler at the event.

MARANATHA. It's Aramaic. But it's written to the church in Corinth, a Greek city located about 60 miles from Athens. And these people would have spoken Greek, not Aramaic. Plus, this is the only time this phrase of two words (marana tha) is used in the Bible. Paul wrote at the end of 1 Corinthians, saying, 'If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema. Maranatha' (16:22). So why would the Apostle Paul use an Aramaic word in writing to Greek-speaking Christians inaGreekcity?It'sbelieved that these early believers used 'Marana-tha' as a sort of code to identify themselves as Christians. Being Aramaic, the other Greek-speaking citizens wouldn't understand and therefore, it would help protect the Christians from further persecution. Life in the Roman empire was increasingly hard for Christians. Everyone was expected to declare that Caesar was God, which Christians could not do. They would only bow their knee and give heart-allegiance to Jesus. You see, 'Maranatha' means 'the Lord is coming.' That was, and still is, the confident expectation that all true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ hold dear. He is coming! Whether used as a greeting or a farewell, Maranatha expressed truth—whatever happens, no matter how difficult life gets, even if persecution leads to death, our Lord IS coming. So Paul used Maranatha to encourage these beleaguered believers to focus their hearts on their Lord and Savior. But Paul had also challenged believers concerning non-Christians saying they were accursed (from the Greek word 'anathema') and under God's judgment. So Paul was also reminding believers that they had a mission in life to share the Good News with others due to the reality of His soon return 'Anathema. Maranatha.' The next to last verse in the Bible, Revelation 22:20, says, 'He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!' So be encouraged! Maranatha!

You may be familiar with the opening line in Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life. The line states, “It’s not about you!” Now while the purpose of that line—True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking less of yourself—it is also true that when it comes to Jesus, it IS about you.

March 8th, 1917 - Objections have been made to the levy of a tax for a courthouse because material is high, and the position taken that we should wait two or three years until the prices to come down. Under the plan to be followed, the county creates a sinking fund by the levying of a special tax, covering a period of three years, so that when the building is turned over it is all paid for. That does not necessarily mean a new court house right off the reel, but after sufficient funds have accumulated to pay for the material and world as they are needed, then operations begin. That may be 12 to 18 months yet. However, there is no indication that after the war closes building material will come down. Vast devastated regions in Europe will have to be restored, and it will take many years to do it. The demand for all kinds of building materials will be tremendous; instead of prices going down, they will soar to higher levels. A courthouse in 1919, or in 1920 will cost a good deal more than in 1917. So far all the material that goes into a building -- structural steel excepted -- has advanced in no such measures as other forms or merchandise. Stone and lumber are higher, but not as high by means as steel, iron or food. A gentleman who knows what he is talking about, informs us that after making comparisons, a building such as is contemplated will cost $5,000.00 more to build nowthanitwouldhavecost two years ago. This is partly because of higher wages, and on a $75,000.00 building, the actual increase in the material used would not be over $3,000.00.
