The many friends of John Smith were much pleased yesterday evening when they learned he had been elected second vice president of the state association of funeral directors at the meeting held in Wichita. This is quite an honor, and the community should be proud to have a funeral director in their midst who can hold such an office.

At a special school board meeting, the Board hired Chris Graham as a new teacher and accepted the resignations of Adam North and Ashley Bedient. Goldie, a retired Kansas City Chiefs football player, and Vasa 'Peaches' Sellers, a retired school administrator, were the featured speakers at the SHS Awards Banquet.

* The Markley Hardware Company has completed arrangements for the Knights of Columbus building on Mill Street, just across from the First National Bank, and will move its hardware store there. It will give them a good location for business, and they will have a complete line of heavy and soft hardware.
