The third-grade students of Mrs. Laura Foss and Mr. Scott Bennett at Stockton Grade School are featured in individual ads in this week’s issue. Each student has created a poster representing what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving.

There will be no Friday evening movie on November 29th, so everyone can enjoy the Olde Tyme Christmas events, parade, and Santa! On Saturday, November 30th, the Nova will have a FREE showing of “Care Bears Nutcracker” at 2:00 p.m. Make plans to come with your family or friends to this delightful movie! Then, on Saturday evening, November 30th, at 7:00 p.m.

Lots of fun and merriment is scheduled for “Christmas in Alton” next Saturday, December 7th. The 23rd annual Chocolate Festival, with a baking contest at the Front Porch, will kick off the festivities.

The wonder and excitement of the Christmas Advent Season can easily get overshadowed by lights, bows, last-minute shopping, and visits to friends and family. In all the hustle and bustle, people often lose sight of what Advent is all about and what is most important about the season.

The Rooks County Historical Society and Museum in Stockton (921 South Cedar) will host its second annual Cowboy Christmas Poetry Gathering. The event will be this Sunday, December 1st at 1:00 p.m.

The Stockton Kindergarten through fifth-grade Christmas program will be held in the Stockton High School gym on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. See you there!.

The menus for the week beginning Monday, November 25, are as follows: Monday—Chicken strips, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread, tropical fruit. Tuesday— Ground beef vegetable soup, mashed potatoes, bread, mandarin oranges. Wednesday—Roast turkey in gravy, sweet potato casserole, corn, dinner roll, pumpkin pie squares. Thursday and Friday— Closed for Thanksgiving.

Week of November 25 Breakfast Monday—Breakfast bread, rosey applesauce, sliced pears, mandarin oranges, milk. Tuesday—Cereal, Go-Gurt, mandarin oranges, rosey applesauce, juice, milk.

There will be a government surplus commodities distribution on Monday, November 25th, for those in the Stockton and Plainville areas. The distribution will be held in Stockton on Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Please enter through the front door at 314 Main Street.

This Monday marked the start of the Winter Sports seasons for Stockton High School, with practices for basketball and wrestling getting underway. The Tigers will open their season on December 6 with the basketball teams traveling to Kensington to take on Thunder Ridge, and the girls’ wrestling squad on the road to WaKeeney.
