The iconic 1973 movie, “Paper Moon,” was filmed in and around this part of Kansas over 50 years ago and will be celebrated at the historic Nova Theatre this Sunday, April 30th, with a FREE 2:00 p.m. matinee.

Spring planting time has arrived, and with it, the opening of Webster’s Plant House at 2155 I Terrace in Stockton (located approximately three miles east on Highway 24 and half a mile south; or check out Google Maps for location). The Plant House (785-425-- 6317) has an excellent selection of bedding plants, veggies, flowers, potting soil, and more for all gardeners! Business hours are 10:00 a.m.

The Rooks County Health Center’s annual meeting and board elections will occur on Friday, May 5th, at 6:00 p.m. The election will be for one seat on the RCH Board of Directors.

It’s time to do your spring cleaning! A citywide cleanup (city limits only) will be held during the week of May 1st through May 5th. Regular trash routes will be picked up as normally scheduled, with additional city trucks following to pick up furniture, tree branches, appliances (Freon must be drained from refrigerators), yard waste, and tires (limit 5, anything over the five-tire limit will be charged landfill prices). The City cannot pick up household hazardous waste (paint, insecticides, herbicides, etc.), batteries, oil and oil containers, fuel and fuel containers, liquid waste, and computers.

The Rooks County Landfill Spring Clean-Up is this Saturday, April 29th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Waste items will be accepted free of charge that day. Please look at the ad in this week’s issue for what will be accepted and how it should be separated.

The menus for the week bginning Monday, April 24, are as follows: Monday—Polish sausage, parslied potatoes, winter blend vegetables, bread, applesauce. Tuesday—Ground beef vegetable soup, tomato cucumber salad, crackers, orange/pineapple salad. Wednesday—Oven-baked chicken, potato salad, pudding, bread, tropical fruit. Thursday—Baked spaghetti, mixed vegetables, bread, fruit cobbler. Friday—Chicken salad sandwich, tossed salad, brownie, bun, strawberries.

Breakfast Monday—Frudel, fruit, juice, milk. Tuesday—Cook’s Choice, fruit, juice, milk.

The regular monthly meeting of the Rooks County Health Center Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, April 25th, at 6:00 p.m. in the hospital’s meeting room. The public is encouraged to attend.
