City commissioners discuss poly carts and solid waste

Body
At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, July 7th, the commissioners discussed the health and safety concerns dealing with the solid waste department. Due to COVID-19 and general health concerns, as well as the physical aspect of picking up heavy trash cans, bags, etc., the commissioners talked about the option of all residents having a poly cart that would work with the mechanics of the trash truck so the employees would not have handle or come in contact with trash bags as much, or also have to continually lift and throw heavy objects into the truck.

At the regular Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, July 7th, commissioners John Ruder, Corky Hagan and Greg Balthazor signed Resolution 2020-7, which is the COVID-19 relief funds to be dispensed for the entities in Rooks County. Emergency management director Butch Post will set up a task force with the hospital, schools and city entities and work on a plan that will need to be in place by August 15th outlining the dispensing of the funds. Commissioner John Ruder said he had visited with Northwest Kansas Planning and Development about their organization facilitating the funds, but while they will offer guidance, they won’t be able to be the main facilitator. Clerk Ruthmary Muir will check to see who other counties are using as facilitators or lining up to help with the dispensing of their SPARK funds.
