Family and July 4th

Body
Harry and Willardene Purdum hosted a family reunion of sorts for the July 4th weekend. Five men went to three towns and at least four fireworks stands to collect enough fireworks to entertain the family gathering all day of the 4th. A sixth man, Walter Eades, had brought some special fireworks with him from home to be used to celebrate Willard's recent retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard after a 25-year career. During a picnic lunch in the lower park, Willard Purdum entertained his daughters, Isabelle and Violet, as well as the rest of the group with some daytime fireworks. Willardene told our neighbor what to expect and to enjoy the show. The neighbor's only request was please pick up any debris from their yard; which was done after the two-hour show. Those that came to visit the Purdums were: Willard, Tiffany, Isabelle and Violet Purdum, now from Rock Springs, Wyo.; Ellen and Dewey Bateman from Lubbock, Texas; Jonathan Kinion from Wichita; and Walter Eades from Lyons. The reunion was really great— so much so that Ellen and Tiffany are already talking about another one!

Visit to Family Grave Sites

Body
Harry and Willardene Purdum have for years made annual visits to the family grave sites in Independence, KS. and Seminole, Okla. However, this year, Willardene has been experiencing so much trouble walking that she doesn't do any travelling except to the doctors; so she talked daughter Ellen into staying a few extra days and accompanying Dad (Harry) to make the cemetery visits for 2020. Their two-anda-half day trip gave them time to talk, as well as taking Dad's pick-up to the dealer in Hutchinson for an oil change and routine service. Ellen was able to return home to Lubbock on the 8th of July. _________
