Well, today’s the day! I’m packing up and heading to Kansas City to visit family and, honestly, it’s a bittersweet moment. Why? Because I’m sacrificing my beloved Sunday nap, which is basically my weekly superpower, to spend some quality time with loved ones.

Much of what I learned about cooking came from watching my mom and grandmother prepare meals on a daily basis. It was a matter of necessity in those days. There weren’t enough restaurants in my small town to go for more than a couple of days without having to eat at the same place.

A fair visitor wandering through the 4-H Building at the Rooks County Fair might have thought that Charlie Brown's giant pumpkin had come to visit!! In fact, the giant pumpkin in the FCE fair booth was just one part of the Hobart Homemakers FCE unit's yearlong focus project on 'Pumpkins!

Just like that, the whole town has settled back into the school-year routine! As children head back to school, please remember we have children walking to school on their own for the first time, new bike riders, and new drivers on the roads. Let’s all work together to keep everyone safe.

We live in a world today that is very different from Biblical times or even from more recent history. We live in an age of instant communication, consistent access to food and water, and all the luxuries of electricity, travel, and more.
