DEAN AND LIBBY KESTER officially took over the operation of Sterling Supply on Thursday, May 26th. Chad and Nancy Sterling owned and operated Sterling Supply in Stockton for the past ten years. Dean worked as the parts manager during that time. Dean and Libby will continue to offer the same great service and auto parts that everyone has come to expect under the new name of Kester Auto Parts LLC.

Reminders: Weeds and abandoned vehicles

It’s that time of year to remind all Stockton residents of the following city ordinances concerning weeds or abandoned vehicles on your property: “It shall be unlawful for any owner, agent, lessee, tenant, or any other person occupying or having charge or control of any premises to permit weeds to remain upon said premises or any other area between the property lines of said property and center line of any adjacent street or alley, including but not specifically limited to sidewalks, streets, alleys, easements, right-of-ways and any other areas, public or private. All weeds as herein defined are hereby declared a nuisance and are subject to abatement as herein provided.” (Ord.

Hobart Homemakers FCE

The Hobart Homemakers FCE group met Monday, May 23, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Stockton at 7 p.m. Susan G. opened with the flag salute and Susan T. read the FCE Mission. Roll call was "What is your favorite meal?" We had five members and one visitor answering. The minutes and treasurer’s report from the last meeting were read and approved. Janie updated us on the Heart and Sole Walks. We’re glad to hear others are wanting to get exercise and be healthy. We are planning our booth for the fair which will be August 7-13. We voted to donate money to the Debbie (Sander) Wallace Medical Fund.

Crossroads Quilt Guild

The regular monthly meeting of Crossroads Quilt Guild was held on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at Stitch and Chatter. We had 26 members attending. Hostesses were Janice Miller and Linda Stamper. A motion was made to approve minutes from last month by Bertha McGann, and seconded by Linda Stamper. We received a thank you note from Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas for baby quilts. The Treasurer's Report was given by Diane Maddy. Motion was made by Jennifer Guffey to approve the report, and seconded by Jana Slansky. No new bills were presented. Nine people attended the Sew Day in Plainville and five people attended in Stockton. The next Sew Days are set for June 8th in Plainville and June 11th in Stockton. Sew Days in Stockton will be from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. from now on. Under New Business, the Victoria Quilt Retreat costs $150.00 per person for 3 days (includes meals and drinks), plus a $75.00 daily charge for the room. Motion made by Janice Miller for Guild to pay the $225.00 room fee and seconded by Darlinea Dinkel. Motion approved by majority vote. A motion was made by Toni Anderson to try to do a retreat weekend of October 7th through 9th. The motion was seconded by Stephanie Hart. A motion was then made to require a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 to attend by Toni Anderson, and was seconded by Diane Maddy. Connie Hasselhorst and Lynda Falley agreed to check on availability. Under Old Business, Christmas items given for sale at Stitch and Chatter that did not sell were either taken back by the owner or were re-priced to sell at the Peony Festival on Saturday, May 21st. The Peony Festival booth will be at Stitch and Chatter from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Door Prize was brought by Terri Collins and won by Betty Bedore. The Project Drawing was won by Darlinea Dinkel. Next month’s project is a potholder. The hostess for next month is Betty Bedore. Next month’s meeting will be Monday, June 20th. A motion to adjourn was made by Kenda Ross, and seconded by Linda Stamper. Motion carried.—Sent In by secretary Linda Gardner.

SHS Seniors: Your photos at the Sentinel may be picked up

SHS Seniors who have a graduation photo displayed in the window at the Stockton Sentinel may pick them up. Our doors are open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9-12 and 1-5. However, if one of these days doesn’t work, we are in the office throughout the week if another day works best. Thank you for sharing your photos!
