Stockton area expected to receive 1-2" of snowfall

According to a news release from the National Weather Service out of Hastings, Neb., a Freeze Warning is in effect from 9 p.m. this evening through 10 a.m. Friday morning, ending the growing season across the area.

Accumulating snowfall is in the forecast for the latter half of the upcoming weekend, with the Stockton area expected to receive 1-2" of snow.

Marshall Campaign Countdown 2020 to Make Stop in Stockton on Sunday

The General Election is quickly approaching and Dr. Roger Marshall, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, is hitting the road for a six-day, 30-stop Campaign Countdown Tour.

Dr. Marshall will be in Stockton from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the corner of Cedar & Main Streets in downtown Stockton.

KHP to participate in seat belt enforcement near area schools

The Kansas Highway Patrol will be joining other Kansas law enforcement agencies, in conjunction with the Seat Belts are For Everyone (SAFE) program, for a one-week seat belt enforcement beginning Monday, October 26 through Friday, October 30. Troopers will focus on drivers and passengers in and around elementary and middle schools.

SAFE is a locally sustained program administered by the students of the high school they attend. The focus is on reducing deaths and injuries on Kansas roadways. Currently in Kansas, 117 high schools from 57 counties participate in the SAFE program.

County renews health insurance policy with Freedom Claims for 2021 year

The commissioners held their regular weekly conference call with Witt O’Brien dealing with the distribution of the SPARK money. Health nurse Lori Eichman and emergency management director Butch Post were present during the call. The County and the other county entities are now in the process of purchasing more COVID-19 related items with the funds. All the invoices need to be emailed by October 23rd for the monthly reconciliation done by Witt O’Brien. The facility is also setting up a drop folder for all the information collected so it can easily be accessed by both Witt O’Brien and the County. After the conference call ended, the commissioners approved the invoices they have received from USD 270 and the City of Stockton to be sent to Witt O’Brien.

Brull named to AAFP Board of Directors

The American Academy of Family Physicians held elections for its board of directors last week at its annual Congress of Delegates, the organization’s governing body. Members of the board of directors advocate on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the US health care system. The AAFP represents 136,700 physicians and medical students.
DR. JEN BRULL, MD, FAAFP, has been named to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Brull is the ninth Kansan and the second Kansas woman to be elected fo the AAFP Board of Directors.

October 21st proclaimed School Transportation Day in Kansas

School bus transportation employees play an important role in the safety of Kansas children.

There were 4,043 bus drivers during the 2019-2020 school year who transported 223,705 Kansas students more than 60.5 million miles. In order to honor their dedication and expertise, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly designated Oct. 21 as School Transportation Day.
