School in need of substitute teachers

Stockton USD 271 is working very hard not to have to go to remote learning for its students this school year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Precautions are being carefully monitored with several regulations in place for the students and staff. However, the District is in great need of substitute teachers to help fill in when a staff member needs to quarantine, tests positive, or is sick due to other illnesses.

The Craft Basket, located on the corner of Mill & Nicholas in Alton will open this Saturday, November 7th for the 2020 Holiday Season! The store will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from 1:00 p.m.

Commissioners hire Zach Brown as new courthouse custodian

At the regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission sheriff Gary Knight was present to inform the commissioners that the department was advertising for a jailer. He also asked about the GIS budget, since his department has taken over some of the GIS duties, with the commissioners stating funds have been set aside in the 2021 budget.

FOR THE VOTERS who requested an early, mail-in ballot, the Rooks County Courthouse has installed a drop-off ballot box for the public’s convenience. Instead of mailing in the ballots, the voters can drop them off at the courthouse anytime until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3rd. The ballot box is located on the south side by the Veterans Memorial.

Annual Sigma Phi ESA Halloween this Friday

The 21st annual Sigma Phi ESA Halloween Parade will be held on Friday, October 30th, staring at the Solomon Valley Manor at 4:30 p.m. Please note the importance of the parade to the Solomon Valley Manor residents. The parade route will run from the Manor, north to Main Street, then west through the business district, ending at the Main Street Christian Church.

Coat Exchange program is up and running

Has this latest cold spell left you needing a coat? If so, the Coat Exchange program is up and running once again on the first floor of the Rooks County Courthouse. Anyone can either pick out a coat or donate coats to this worthwhile program.

General Election takes place next Tuesday

With the General Election just under a week away, Rooks Countians have already been exercising their right to vote with 13% of the County’s 3,449 registered voters casting ballots. Rooks County Election Offcer Ruthmary Muir said 285 voters requested mail-in ballots, with 188 being returned thus far. An additional 173 people have voted in advance at the clerk’s offce. For those who choose to wait until Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, polling places will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
