City talks curfew for public areas

The Stockton City Commission met for its bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 21st. One of the first items discussed was a blanket curfew in its public areas for Stockton, such as the city parks, etc. The ideas and suggestions for the curfew have been received from what surrounding towns have in place. At this time proposed curfew regulations are being looked at with the commissioners asking city manager Courtney Flower to re-work some of the wording. City attorney Joe Gasper will review the proposal before the commissioners approve the final draft.

This year’s General Election has just a handful of contested races, one of which is the three open positions for the USD No.

August jobless rate falls in Rooks County by nearly a half percentage point

Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services (LMIS) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.8 percent in August. This was unchanged from 3.8 percent in July and a decrease from 6.2 percent in August 2020.

Accident claims the life of former Plainville resident

A two-vehicle accident in Ellsworth County which occurred just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, has claimed the life of former Plainville resident Lyle Dunning. Dunning, along with his wife, Nancy, were both injured in the accident, with Lyle passing away on September 15.

Local man killed in two-vehicle accident in Oregon

Another tragedy has taken the life of a young Stockton man as a result of a vehicle accident and shocked this community once again. It was three months to the day after the last accident took a young man’s life.

Richard Schleicher, age 24, of Stockton, Kan., who was scheduled to compete at the Pendleton Round-Up, died in a crash Thursday, September 16, in eastern Oregon while on his way to the bull riding event. Two other bull riders who were also contestants at the same event, were seriously injured, according to Oregon State Police.
