Ogallala Commons, Inc. makes a visit to Rooks County

Rooks County was honored to have board members and staff of the nonprofit organization of Ogallala Commons (OC) visit the county on Friday, October 8th. Ogallala Commons, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit education and leadership organization with programming aimed at supporting and building vibrant rural communities on the Great Plains. The staff members were from New Mexico, Texas, southeast Colorado, northeast Colorado, southwest Kansas and Minnesota.
THE OGALLALA COMMONS board and staff members made stops in several places in Rooks County when they visited the area on Friday, October 8th. One stop was in Codell with them taking a picture in front of the Codell Cyclone sculpture.

RYAN MONGEAU had a good contigent of family and friends present during the Kansas Junior Livestock Show held October 1-3. Mongeau won the Grand Champion Market Hog Title with his Dark AOB. Commissioners receive updates from city manager

The regular Stockton City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, October 5th began with the approval of the evening’s Consent Agenda. The agenda included the Solomon Valley Manor gross payroll in the amount of $55,659.30, the Solomon Valley Manor warrants in the amount of $69,840.65, the City of Stockton warrants in the amount of $117,654.32, the City of Stockton gross payroll in the amount of $89,959.56, and the September 21st regular meeting minutes.

Goblin’s Glory is Saturday, October 23rd

Get ready for this year’s Goblin’s Glory, set for Saturday, October 23rd in the Stockton High school gyms! The schedule of events starts with the Soup Supper at 6:00 p.m., the Costume Contest at 6:30 p.m., Games and Bingo at 7:00 p.m., the Merchandise Auction at 7:30 p.m., and the Queen and King Crowning at 8:30 p.m. There will be lots of fun and games and food for everyone, so come on out and plan on having a fun time! No, Stockton is not being invaded by pirates since people have been hearing what sounds like cannon fire or sonic booms going off in the town on a regular basis each night. What is happening is buzzards have been roosting on top of the Farmers Union Elevators.

Electrical power outage in Stockton last Friday

There was an electrical power outage in Stockton last Friday, October 1st around 4.30 p.m. The City’s electric department ran the line to thoroughly check the area to determine the cause of the outage. This careful rundown takes about ten to fifteen minutes as they look for the possible causes before they retry the line and turn the power back on. It was determined that the cause of the outage was probably due to an animal running across the lines.

Area fall harvest is revving up

The area farmers are just getting started with this year’s fall harvest. So as of Monday, October 4th, the Stockton Farmers Union Elevator in Stockton has taken in 25,000 bushels of soybeans, 37,380 bushels of corn, and 19,325 bushels of milo. The Woodston Coop has taken in 9,000 bushels of soybeans and 40,000 bushels of corn. No milo has been taken in at this time.
