Teacher of the Year visit held at Stockton

Last year, Stockton Grade School second grade teacher Jennifer Kesler and Shane Austin, Agriculture Education, were recognized as the District’s Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY) nominees for USD 271 for Region 1.

Stockton firemen attend fire school in Kirwin

Eight volunteer fire fighters from the Stockton Fire Department attended a fire school put on by the Kansas Fire Fighters Association in Kirwin over the weekend. The two-day event was held on Saturday, February 5th and Sunday, February 6th.
STOCKTON FIREFIGHTERS attended the fire fighter school in Kirwin over the weekend and honed their skills dealing with vehicle fires and rescue techniques.

Commissioners approve County’s Solid Waste Management Plan

The Rooks County Commissioners began their weekly meeting on Tuesday, February 1st by approving Plainville High School’s After Prom request. The commissioners will donate $400.00 to each of the County’s three high schools as long as they receive requests from the schools.

Suspicious death investigation underway in Jewell County

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating after a Jewell County Sheriff’s deputy was found deceased inside his home in Mankato, Kansas. The Jewell County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance on Monday, Feb. 7, at approximately 2:40 a.m.

SGS Spelling Bee Champion is Corbyn Glendening

Stockton fourth-grade student Corbyn Glendening won the grade school spelling bee, held on Wednesday, January 26th, by correctly spelling the world “invasions.” Second place and third place were decided by a spell-off between Hudson Kriley and Jayana Creighton.
REPRESENTING Stockton at the Rooks County Spelling Bee will be Stockton Grade School Champion Corbyn Glendening, Jayana Creighton, Hudson Kriley, Sophia Antonini and Kansas Tso.

WITH JANUARY BEING SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH, the U.S.D. No. 271 Board of Education was recognized last Tuesday, January 25, during halftime of the Stockton vs. Northern Valley basketball game by the Stockton High School and Junior High Student Councils.
