NCTA Crop judging scholars named

Four sophomores attending the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis have each received a $500.00 scholarship as team members of the NCTA Crop Judging Team. Ag Valley Coop, a cooperative that has supported the NCTA Aggies and the agronomy program of Professor Brad Ramsdale for several years, sponsors the scholarships.

Board tours facilities during meeting

To start the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education meeting, which was held Monday October 10th, in the District Conference Room, the Stockton second grade students recited the Pledge of Allegiance with those in attendance. They then talked to the board members about what their favorite subjects are in school before the Board turned to the items on their evening’s agenda.

Employees talk wages with commissioners

At the regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission held on Tuesday, October 11th, several road and bridge employees were at the morning session to talk about wages in the department. The commissioners had surveys from the surrounding counties showing their pay scale and benefits for information. Employee Jim Prockish stated that they had started talking about the pay scale in July and wanted to know what was being done.

Survey starting on K-9 bridge in Smith County

The Kansas Department of Transportation has started a field survey for a proposed project to replace the Beaver Creek bridge along K-9 in Smith County. The bridge is located near the west city limits of Gaylord.

County Commissioners listen to K-Camp and K-Worcc proposal

The Rooks County Commissioners listened to the proposals from Dave Luke with K-Camp and Jesse Pfannenstiel with K-Worcc dealing with a self-insured property and casualty plan as well as a workers compensation plan for the County. Both men gave their proposals to the commissioners during the regular meeting held on Tuesday, October 4th. The two companies will send in their bids for the commissioners’ consideration within the next few weeks. Sheriff Gary Knight was also in attendance for the presentation. At the start of the meeting Kayla Hilbrink, representing Stockton PRIDE, asked for a waiver for the landfill fees for the town’s PRIDE cleanup day, which will be held on Wednesday, October f.19th. The volunteers and high school students will be cleaning out a building on Main Street as part of the work planned for the event. The commissioners approved the waiver as requested.

Fall Turkey Season in full swing

The Fall Turkey Season began on Saturday, October 1st and will run until Thursday, November 10th in units 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. Unit 4 is closed. This is for archery and shotgun with the shooting hours to begin one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.

City holds short meeting

At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission held on Tuesday, October 4th, the commissioners began their work session by approving Resolution 1685, which approves the name change for the Kansas Power Pool. They then approved a building permit for a fence addition at 112 North Third Street before a ten-minute executive session was held at the request of commissioner Adam Bryant to discuss acquisition of a building.

Please take note that the annual FFA Goblin’s Glory will be held next Thursday, October 20th in the Stockton High School Gym. This date is different than what was printed on the school calendar, so make plans to attend this night of spooky fun.

Advance voting to begin October 19th

The Rooks County Clerk’s Office has announced that beginning Wednesday, October 19th, you are now allowed to vote in advance of the November 8th General Election, by visiting the Rooks County Clerk’s Office, 2nd Floor of the Rooks County Courthouse. The deadline for advance in-person voting is Monday, November 7th.
