Heartland’s Match Month Campaign returns
The Heartland Community Foundation’s Twice as Nice is back—the annual Match Month campaign when donations to the foundation are matched by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. All donations must be postmarked by Feb. 28 in order to be eligible for matching.
The Heartland Community Foundation can earn up to $50,000 in matched funds for each of its three-county legacy funds: Ellis County Legacy Fund, Rooks County Legacy Fund, and Trego County Legacy Fund. This year, the Hansen Foundation is matching two dollars to every dollar donated.
The county legacy funds are permanent endowed accounts. Heartland Community Foundation uses the investment income from each fund to make grants to charitable organizations in the respective counties. Grant dollars benefit the community in various ways, from projects for children and teens, to others for seniors, people with disabilities, or the community at large. In 2022, Heartland granted $134,613 to projects in Rooks county. Combined with Ellis and Trego counties, $424,772 was granted for charitable projects in the region.
As the 2023 Twice as Nice campaign runs throughout February, Heartland encourages community members that any donation size will make an impact. Each donation from supporters in the community ensures that Heartland captures every match and bonus dollar possible.
Alone, gifts of $50, $100 or even $500 might not be enough to make a big impact on a nonprofit organization. But, when those gifts are combined with the gifts of others and then invested so they grow even more over time, the impact is much larger!
“We are stronger as a community than we are as individuals. Therefore, we rely on the generosity of donors to build up our towns,” said Sarah Meitner, executive director at the Heartland Community Foundation. “This is a big month as we are hopeful of hitting our goal in each county.”

“The need among the nonprofits that apply to Heartland is typically far more than the amount we have available to grant,” Meitner continued. “With your donations, match dollars from Hansen, future estate gifts, and lots of patience, we can grow these funds and grant even more.”
