God so loved the world of now and then And all the loved ones who followed Him He gave to the world a Son on the earth As Mary gave to God this Child of birth. He grew up to be a carpenter lad Built a place of worship with what He had.

It’s not something that I spend a lot of time thinking about, but when I ran across this list of “Words that don’t mean what they used to,” I thought my readers might find this interesting, too. For example, way back in 1659, when the English clergyman Thomas Fuller used the word “unfriended” in a letter, it’s a safe bet that he wasn’t talking about his Facebook page. Instead, Fuller used the word to mean something like “estranged” or “fallen out,” a straightforward literal meaning that has long since fallen out of the language.

I rescued this one out of the round file. Sadly, it is probably truer than we would like to think.

Dear Editor: Thistle be a “two-part” letter this time as there are two different subjects I need to cover. Since the new administration has changed the way we are to speak, I’ll do my best not to get myself or the Sentinel into trouble.

THIS AND THAT * The Monkees were and will always be one of my favorite music groups since I watched their TV show when I was growing up and still watch the reruns today. I also have several of their albums because they had some great songs and Davy sure could play that tambourine! So when I read this about The Monkees, I just had to share it! And those of you who know anything about this music group will get this, and I know you will laugh just like I did.

Dear Editor: Congratulations to the 7 girls on the Lady Tiger Basketball Team on their big win at Mankato. Trailing most of the time and 7 points behind with less than a minute to play, the Lady Tigers tied the game for overtime and managed a terrific win over the Rock Hills Grizzly girls.

What have you learned about yourself during the pandemic? Several times in my life I have kept a diary; but I could never keep it up and rarely made it through a month or two, let alone a year. I kept a diary religiously in high school, and I’m pretty sure it’s buried in one of my Time Capsules (okay, plastic storage box), preserved for some hilarious enlightenment after I’m gone and my kids and grandkids find it among my other personal things.

THIS AND THAT * Hey, who remembers Mr. Shier’s junior high English class? Do you all remember when we had to memorize the poem “Daffodils” by William Woodsworth? If nothing else, it does remind me of March and spring!! * This is so true…“Cooking a dinner takes like four or five hours, eating it takes like three seconds, and washing the dishes takes like seven or eight days and nights.” * Guess which quarterback NFL Hall Of Famer-to-be Peyton Manning’s kids like? I will give you one guess.
