SHS Awards Banquet held

The Stockton High School Awards Banquet was held on Wednesday, May 1st. The program began with a Welcome by high school principal Lindsay Cravens, and everyone in attendance enjoyed refreshments from the event’s sponsor, Tiger Nation.

Bridge repair projects underway on I-70

The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin multiple bridge repair projects along I-70 in Sherman and Thomas counties. Project work was expected to start the week of April 22 and will take place on structures at the following locations: • Westbound I-70 near mile marker 7 in Sherman County • Westbound and eastbound I-70 over U.S.

Several items on the agenda at the County meeting

John Hilgers with Birddog Aviation was at the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, April 23rd, to inform the commissioners that the FAA has approved a private runway on his property. Hilgers owns a crop dusting business and will still use the Rooks County Regional Airport for that purpose. He let the commissioners know that construction on the runway will begin June 1st. Hilgers was at the meeting to allow the commissioners to ask questions or voice concerns. He also presented them with paperwork about the runway. There were no concerns voiced with Hilgers to move ahead with the project.

Let the music play! Stockton gets new Main Street sound system

Stockton’s Main Street has just upped its game with a state-of-the-art sound system that has been in the works for the past few years. The Heartland Youth Action Group, consisting of Stockton High School students Taigen Kerr, Aubrey Kesler, and Cappi Hoeting, took on the project of a new sound system for Main Street quite a while ago by helping with the fundraising and meeting with City members and Electronic Life of Topeka to approve and finalize a system that would best suit the town’s needs.

Special school board meetings held

The Stockton USD 271 Board of Education held two special meetings, the first on Thursday, April 18th. At the meeting, they reviewed the findings from the Focus Group meetings, which covered community surveys, salary schedule comparisons, and the interview process overview as the Board continues its search for a new superintendent and high school principal.
