Election results from Tuesday, August 6th Primary Election
Rooks County Election Officer Laurie Montgomery has released the unofficial vote totals and percentages from the Primary Election held on Tuesday, August 6.
Of interest locally was the District 2 Rooks County Commissioner seat currently held by John Ruder.
Ruder decided not to seek reelection. Three from Plainville threw their names in the hat on the Republican side. Once the votes were counted, Tracy Rudman received 187 votes, followed by Jake Brown with 134 and Ernest Hammerschmidt with 34.
For the US State House of Representatives on the Republican side, Tracey Mann of Salina defeated Eric Bloom of Lawrence, 674 to 50. Democrat Paul Buskirk of Lawrence received 36 votes and will challenge Mann in the November 5th General Election.
The only other contested race was between the two Republicans running for Kansas State Senate, District 36. Incumbent Elaine S. Bowers, Concordia, garnered 490 votes, while her challenger, Robert Bonanata of Russell, received 224. According to Rooks County Election Officer Laurie Montgomery, this primary election had a very low turnout, with 21% of the county's 3,678 voters checking in. Plainville City had a voter turnout of 29%, while Stockton showed 14%.
