Crossroads Quilt Guild

The June 17th Crossroads Quilt Guild meeting was brought to order at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments provided by Bertha McGann, Elaine Hrabe, and Betty Bedore. Roll Call was taken with Show and Tell of the Round Robin quilts that were made for the fair booth. Minutes from the May meeting were read and a motion to approve was made by Jennifer Guffey and seconded by Bertha McGann. Motion carried. The Treasurer’s Report was presented, and a motion was made to approve by Stephanie Hart and seconded by Connie Haselhorst. The motion was carried. June Sew Days were attended by ten for Plainville and 0 for Stockshow, ton. The next Sew Days are July 10th for Plainville and July 13th for Stockton. During Old Business Karen McCune suggested changing a fair entry category for quilts done by computerized method. Under New Business Connie Haselhorst announced that the Ellis County Fair dates are July 13th through July 20th, and if you wanted to enter a quilt, it had to be there by July 8th. It was brought up that we should use the funds in our account for something to benefit the community. Ideas were a metal bench donated to the fairgrounds with the Guild’s name on it, a donation to 4-H to encourage quilting with a voucher for $50.00, a donation to the Andreson Park in Plainville, also to the Cities of Stockton and Palco, and possibly buying and donating a sewing machine, as reported by Jennifer Guffey. Janey Lowry informed everyone about the June 27th Kearney program on the Fabulous Feed Sack Era at 7:00 p.m. entitled Train and Trails. Next month’s meeting is scheduled for July 15th, 2024, and no hostess is signed up, so each person is to bring a small salad. The door prize was brought by Betty Bedore and won this month by Linda Gardner. The motion was made to adjourn by Stephanie Hart and seconded by Betty Bedore. The motion carried. Jennifer Guffey gave a special demonstration on Hexi blocks.—Sent In, Secretary Terrii Collins

I hope that everyone thought about why we celebrated the 4th over the long weekend and conveyed its importance to the younger ones.

Stockton's Betty Cadoret represents Senior Companion Program at State Capitol

At 91 years young, Betty Cadoret, a cherished Senior Companion volunteer from Stockton, experienced a day she will never forget. Betty and the Fort Hays State University Senior Companion Program representatives were honored at the State Capitol on June 27, 2024, as Governor Laura Kelly signed a proclamation celebrating the program's 50th anniversary.
