“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” This opening verse of Genesis 1 is a simple statement but challenges the human mind. God didn’t need to create the universe; he chose to. God created the world and people as an expression of his love. The creation story teaches us much about God and ourselves.

BAPTISM. Does it save? This came up recently, so I thought it might help others, too. The short answer is 'Yes' and 'No.' That's because there are two baptisms in the Bible. By far, the most important one is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If a person is a truly born-again Christian, the Holy Spirit has 'baptized' them and forgives them of sin and eternal life. In other words, the Holy Spirit has figuratively placed that person into the 'body of Christ' or, we could say, into a spiritual relationship with Him. Jesus said in Acts 1:5, 'For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' This was fulfilled in Acts 2:1-4 and resulted in the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit inside of believers. Again, when a person repents of their sin against God and savingly trusts the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the all-sufficient sacrifice for their sin, that person is reborn spiritually. So, baptism of the Holy Spirit makes a person a Christian.
