The annual meeting of the Rooks County Historical Society and Museum was held on Sunday, April 27th. President Justin Russ conducted the business meeting. The election of four new board members was held. Those elected were Katie Kearns, Linda Melton, Leo Oliva, and Justin Russ. A recap of the 2024 activities was given, and plans and events for 2025 were announced, including participating in the Highway 24 Garage Sale, a photo con-test at the Rooks County Free Fair, and the Cowboy Poetry Program at Christmas time. The museum will also continue story time on Saturday mornings. Angela Bates was the guest speaker, and the movie “1877 Ellis Trail” was presented. Additional guests were Leroy Walz (Ellis landowner), Darris Worcester (artist, Hill City), and three additional descendants besides Angela of the first settlers of Nicodemus. They were Johnella Holmes, Marilyn Sayers, and Cheryl Bates Jones. The film's beginning tells the story of Robert and Billie Brogden’s life. Robert was the caretaker of the Nicodemus facilities for many years. —Sent In by Linda Melton
