Graduates High School

Body
Taylor Elizabeth Sullivan, granddaughter of Bob and Edna McCall, graduated with honors from Emporia High School on Sunday, June 7th. Graduation had been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 virus, and with restrictions still in affect, graduation was held as a drive-through. Bob and Edna were unable to attend their granddaughter’s graduation as they were on lockdown in Parkview Care Center in Osborne. However, they were very happy to watch the ceremony via a live website. Taylor plans to attend Emporia State College. Thomas and Stephanie Sullivan of Emporia are Taylor’s parents.

Squash Bugs

Body
Squash bugs are the grey, shield-shaped bugs that feed on squash and pumpkin plants. If you have had problems with these insects in the past, you know that they are almost impossible to control when mature. This is because the squash bugs have a hard body that an insecticide has difficulty penetrating. Thus, spraying when the insects are small is important. We are now seeing the nymphs of the first generation. These nymphs will eventually become adults, which will lay eggs that will become the second generation. The second generation is often huge and devastating. Therefore, it is important to control as many squash bugs now as possible. Because squash bugs

Midland Marketing expands cooperative to Hill City

Body
MIDLAND MARKETING HELD A RIBBON CUTTING on Monday, June 1st, at the building they recently purchased in Hill City. The new expansion will be their agronomy location. They plan to begin remodeling the building to become a state-of-the-art agronomy facility. Along with the new facility, Midland Marketing is bringing with it a veteran agronomy staff with Leonard Long and Kelly Waugh. In 1915, Midland Marketing was founded by a few progressive farmers. Still to this day, progressive farmers are present in the leadership of their board and General Manager, Kevin Royer. As times have changed, the board and Kevin found it is time to expand, which led to this day. Participating in the ribbon cutting were Midland Marketing board members and employees, along with members of the Hill City Chamber of Commerce. Midland Marketing will carry Winfield Products and they look forward to being a part of the Hill City community for years to come.
