“Be strong and courageous” is a phrase you will find in a number of places in the Bible, including three times in the first chapter of Joshua. As we explore Chapter 18 from The Story this week, we see one of the greatest examples of courage ever demonstrated, this one from the book of Daniel.

The menus for the week beginning Monday, June 8, are as follows: Monday—Pork cutlet, scalloped potatoes, peas, bread, pears. Tuesday—Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, seasoned carrots, bread, pineapple. Wednesday—Taco burger with lettuce, cheese, tomato, refried beans, bun, tropical fruit. Thursday—Liver and onions in gravy, mashed potatoes, beets, bread, peaches. Friday—Baked fish, macaroni and cheese, catalina blend vegetables, bread, plums.

In last week’s paper, the caption to the front page picture concerning Memorial Day should have said the VFW Post members posted the colors on the Avenue of Flags and at the memorial, not the Auxiliary ladies. The Auxiliary presented the wreaths.

The family of Gail Hoar would like to thank everyone who took time to help honor him with your presence, kind words, gifts of food and memorial donations. Your acts of kindness speak volumes about the kind of man he was. Thank you to Brad and his staff and Pastor Michelle for doing such a wonderful job of carrying out his final wishes. A special thank you to Dr. Beth and the staff at Redbud Village who cared for him and loved him as much as we did.

As with most events this spring, things had a much different look than in previous years. Such was the case with this year’s Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) hosted by Rooks County E-Community and Economic Development. With schools closing in March and restrictions on group meetings, it was decided that the YEC competition would be held virtually with videos and pictures submitted online.
